The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 106%. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $37.2B in 2021; however, from 2022 to 2024, production failed to regain momentum.

France (516K units) constituted the country with the largest volume of meat-preparation industrial machinery production, accounting for 58% of total volume. Moreover, meat-preparation industrial machinery production in France exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Italy (191K units), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Germany (66K units), with a 7.4% share.

In value terms, meat-preparation industrial machinery imports declined dramatically to $974M in 2024. Overall, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 15%. The level of import peaked at $1.3B in 2023, and then shrank dramatically in the following year.

In 2024, Russia (4K units), the Netherlands (2.9K units), Belgium (2.2K units), Germany (2.1K units), Spain (1.8K units), France (1.7K units), the UK (1.6K units), Poland (1.3K units) and Ukraine (0.9K units) represented the main importer of industrial machinery for the preparation of meat or poultry in Europe, generating 68% of total import. Italy (866 units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2013 to 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Belgium (with a CAGR of +9.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest meat-preparation industrial machinery importing markets in Europe were Russia ($113M), the UK ($96M) and the Netherlands ($83M), with a combined 30% share of total imports. France, Spain, Germany, Poland, Italy, Belgium and Ukraine lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 39%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Spain, with a CAGR of +7.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in Europe stood at $36 thousand per unit in 2024, shrinking by -6.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2023 when the import price increased by 16% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $39 thousand per unit, and then contracted in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2024, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($59 thousand per unit), while Belgium ($17 thousand per unit) was amongst the lowest.

In 2024, shipments abroad of industrial machinery for the preparation of meat or poultry decreased by -25.9% to 39K units, falling for the second consecutive year after four years of growth. Overall, exports saw a noticeable curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 8.2% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at 57K units in 2022; however, from 2023 to 2024, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, meat-preparation industrial machinery exports reduced remarkably to $1.8B in 2024. In general, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2023 with an increase of 9.2%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $2.4B, and then contracted markedly in the following year.

The Netherlands (9.8K units) and Germany (9.8K units) represented the main exporters of industrial machinery for the preparation of meat or poultry in 2024, accounting for near 25% and 25% of total exports, respectively. Italy (4.7K units) ranks next in terms of the total exports with a 12% share, followed by Poland (7.6%). Spain (1.6K units), Denmark (1.4K units), France (1.3K units), Austria (1.1K units), Belgium (0.9K units) and the UK (0.9K units) held a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2013 to 2024, the biggest increases were recorded for Belgium (with a CAGR of +11.1%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($600M), the Netherlands ($463M) and Italy ($163M) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2024, together comprising 69% of total exports. Denmark, Poland, Spain, France, Austria, the UK and Belgium lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 23%.

Belgium, with a CAGR of +6.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2024, the export price in Europe amounted to $46 thousand per unit, almost unchanged from the previous year. Over the last eleven-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.3%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2023 when the export price increased by 19%. The level of export peaked in 2024 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($61 thousand per unit), while Poland ($26 thousand per unit) was amongst the lowest.
