Healthcare Workers Protest Outside Hollywood Presbyterian

Nov 22, 2023Nov 22, 2023

HOLLYWOOD, CA – Healthcare workers rallied outside CHA Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center Thursday, protesting what they say is understaffing and other policies that put patients at risk.

The demonstration comes amid contract negotiations between the East Hollywood hospital and SEIU-United Healthcare Workers West, the union which represents some of its employees.

The union in a news release said the hospital is understaffed and has failed to adequately invest in its workforce, which endangers patient care and the hospital's ability to retain experienced workers.

"Management has refused to provide the staff we need to deliver quality care to our patients," certified nursing assistant Elizabeth George said in the release. "I have as many as 12 patients at a time. We are being stretched thin, rushed, and can't give adequate care. It's time for Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center show some accountability."

Reached for comment, a hospital spokesperson issued the following statement to Patch:

"CHA Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center's priority is to provide our patients safe, high quality care and value the voice and well-being of our caregivers.

"CHA HPMC is currently negotiating with SEIU-UHW and will continue to work with the union in good faith until a contract is reached. We look forward to future discussions and fair negotiations with the union as we value the dedication and hard work of all CHA HPMC employees, including SEIU-UHW members."
